— Accommodations

— Inside the 5 bedroom villa Costalegre books whole

Casa Papelillo is a 5 bedroom villa Costalegre guests take as one house, not a hotel. Five suites named after the sky — Sun, Star, Moon, Eclipse and Constellation — each with a private ocean view, a terrace or balcony with a hammock, and an en-suite bathroom. Inside: A/C, Bose sound, Starlink Wi-Fi, smart TV, minibar, safe and yoga mats. The estate is booked whole, for up to twelve guests. Every suite faces the Pacific from the cliffs of Chamela Bay; from November to February, humpback whales pass in front of them.

In every suite: ocean view, en-suite bathroom, A/C and fan, Bose sound system, high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi, Smart TV, minibar, tea and coffee set, safe, yoga mat and a hammock outside.

The Sun Master Suite

Where the first light meets the Pacific.

The Sun suite at Casa Papelillo is the highest room in the house, one floor above the palapa, and it takes the day first. A king bed faces the water. Beyond it, a panoramic private terrace holds a daybed, a hammock and an outdoor bathtub under open sky. Indoors there is a second tub and shower carved from lava stone, a sofa, a desk and a walk-in closet. It suits the couple who wakes early and wants the terrace to themselves. Book an in-villa spa treatment and the terrace becomes a private spa above the Pacific.

The Star Master Suite

The widest view in the house.

The Star suite at Casa Papelillo sits on the upper floor beside the Sun, in the corner furthest from the palapa. It belongs to the second half of the day: from about three o’clock the light turns amber across the cliff and stays that way until the sun drops into the water. The terrace is laid with daybeds, soft pillows and a hammock, and takes in cliff, bay and open Pacific in one sweep, with no other house in sight. Inside: a king bed, a sofa, a desk, a walk-in closet and an en-suite bathroom with a bathtub. For two guests who plan to disappear for the afternoon.

The Moon Ocean Suite

The sound of the surf, all night.

The Moon suite at Casa Papelillo is on the ground floor, closest to the palapa and the terraces, 20 metres from the Pacific. The balcony doors stay open, because the sound of the surf below is why guests ask for this suite. On a clear night the moon lays a silver line across the water, and on dark nights the bay can glow with bioluminescence. A king bed faces the ocean. Beside the private balcony and its hammock there is an indoor lounge with two sofas, a walk-in closet and an en-suite bathroom with a bathtub. After dark it is the quietest of the five suites.

JUNIOR SUITE · GROUND FLOOR · TWO QUEEN BEDS

The Eclipse Junior Suite

Two queen beds, and shade at midday.

The Eclipse suite at Casa Papelillo is the one families take. Two queen beds sit side by side, with two desks, an en-suite bathroom with a bathtub and a private oceanfront balcony with a hammock. It is on the ground floor, a few steps from the palapa and the pool, and it is the shaded suite of the five: cooler through the middle of the day, which works for children and for anyone sleeping through an afternoon. At dusk the balcony faces the water as the light goes from gold to rose to violet. It sleeps four, and it is what lets a party of twelve stay together in one house.

LIBRARY & MEDIA ROOM · GARDEN FLOOR · TWO SOFA BEDS

The Constellation: Library & Media Room

Bedroom, library, office.

The Constellation is the Casa Papelillo media room and the fifth suite: a bedroom at night, a library in the heat of the afternoon, and an office at whatever time the rest of the world is awake. Two sofa beds open for children or extra guests, with an en-suite bathroom with shower behind them. The windows carry both views, ocean on one side and garden on the other, and a dedicated desk faces the water with the villa’s high-speed Starlink Wi-Fi. It is on the garden floor, one level below the palapa, with its own terrace, hammock and access to the garden, so a film at night or a call at seven in the morning reaches nobody else.

— THE ARCHITECT & DESIGNER —

— Who designed
Casa Papelillo?

Casa Papelillo was designed by Alex Pössenbacher, the Mexico City-born architect; Architectural Digest named him to its AD100. The interiors are by Amathea, the world-published interior design studio. The result is an architect-designed oceanfront villa for twelve on the cliffs of Chamela Bay, rented whole — five suites, one party in the house. Inspired by the bohemian and artistic soul of Costalegre, it is more than a destination; it is a ritual of reconnection. Here, life slows down to the rhythm of the waves, and every space is designed to let the ocean, the light, and the breeze flow freely.
