— GETTING HERE

How do you get to Casa Papelillo?

Casa Papelillo is on Chamela Bay in Costalegre, Jalisco, on Mexico’s Pacific coast, ten minutes north of Careyes. Most guests fly into Manzanillo (ZLO), 1 h 40 – 2 h away, or Puerto Vallarta (PVR), 2 h 30 – 3 h. Private flights can land at the Chamela strip, about 16 minutes from the villa.

AirportDrive
Chamela landing strip (private)about 16 min
Chalacatepec (COJ)about 40 min
Manzanillo (ZLO)1 h 40 – 2 h
Puerto Vallarta (PVR)2 h 30 – 3 h

Private transfers, one way: Manzanillo $150 by sedan or $250 by Suburban; Puerto Vallarta $250 or $425.

Given the local roads, we recommend renting a four-wheel-drive car for your stay; the villa has free on-site parking.

Which airport should we fly into? Puerto Vallarta has the widest choice of direct international flights; Manzanillo is smaller, with faster customs and baggage claim. Small private aircraft can use the Chamela airstrip (CHM31), about 16 minutes away, or Chalacatepec (COJ), about 40 minutes; ask us before you book, so we can coordinate your arrival. Highway 200 runs the length of this coast, and we recommend driving it in daylight.

What is the area like? A quiet, rural stretch of coast, away from the resort corridor: small fishing villages, private estates and the UNESCO Chamela–Cuixmala Biosphere Reserve, on whose edge Casa Papelillo sits. The reserve protects 13,142 hectares of tropical dry forest, and sea turtles nest and hatch on the beaches from July to December. Careyes, with its polo fields, galleries and beach clubs, is 10 minutes south.

Is this Casa Papelillos in Puerto Vallarta? No. Casa Papelillo is on Chamela Bay, about two and a half hours south of Puerto Vallarta, and is unrelated to Casa Papelillos in Mismaloya or to similarly named properties in Punta Mita and Nayarit.
