The Casa Papelillo Guides

The Casa Papelillo Guides are written by the team at Casa Papelillo, a private, fully staffed oceanfront villa for 12 on the cliffs of Chamela Bay, ten minutes north of Careyes on Mexico’s Pacific coast. They cover the Costalegre (Costa Alegre) coast of Jalisco as we actually know it: when the festivals fall, how to reach a coast with no airline service of its own, and what the wildlife season brings. Each guide answers a question guests ask us before they book.

What is the Costalegre?

The Costalegre is the stretch of Jalisco coast between Puerto Vallarta and Manzanillo: jungle, headlands and empty beaches, with Careyes at its centre and the UNESCO Chamela–Cuixmala Biosphere Reserve beside it. It has no resort strip and no airport of its own, which is most of why it stays quiet. Read our full Costalegre travel guide.

When should you visit the Costalegre?

November to April is dry and sunny, with whales offshore (November to February) and polo in Careyes. May to October is green, quiet and the best value. Read our month-by-month guide to the best time to visit.

These guides are kept current. If something is out of date, or you want detail we have not covered, write to info@casapapelillo.com — or see the villa and its five suites. Many common questions are answered in our frequently asked questions.
